लंदन वार्ता: नई विश्व व्यवस्था لندن وارتا: نیا عالمی نظام
One of the prominent barristers in the UK, and Professor of Law at King’s College London, Prof Satvinder Juss, examines the legality of the ongoing US-led war against Iran under international law.
He is in conversation with broadcaster Pervaiz Alam on the Cineink podcast London Varta: New World Order. On the geopolitical front, he observes that Iran has achieved the impossible in just one month, emerging as the fourth world power by gaining effective control over the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20 per cent of the world’s oil supply passes — nearly double Russia’s share of global oil production.
Professor Juss argues that the attack on Iran can only be justified on two possible grounds: first, in self-defence against an imminent armed attack; and second, if explicitly authorised by the international community through a UN Security Council resolution. He states unequivocally that neither condition has been met. To date, Iran has not attacked the United States, meaning there was no imminent threat, and no UN resolution authorising military action exists. He therefore concludes that “this is absolutely an illegal war.”
He further condemns the attack on Minab School as “an attack on humanity” and emphasises that civilian infrastructure essential for human survival — such as desalination plants and power stations — is legally protected and must not be targeted under any circumstances.
Professor Juss also draws attention to a statement made by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on 13 March, in which he declared, “We will keep pushing, keep advancing, no quarter, no mercy for our enemies.” According to Prof Juss, even issuing such a command or threat violates international law and constitutes a war crime.
Professor Juss concludes that what we are witnessing is a descent into lawlessness and “the law of the jungle.” He asserts that the United States, which created the existing world order, is now dismantling it, marking the end of the American century of supremacy.
In this 10-episode video/audio podcast series, London Vārta: New World Order, produced in London by Achala Sharma and Pervaiz Alam for Hindi/Urdu-speaking global audiences, we delve into the seismic shifts reshaping global politics in 2025–2026. From the latest developments in the Middle East to the fiery street agitations unsettling regimes and emerging new alliances in South Asia, and the resurgence of far-right nationalism in Europe, the London Vārta: New World Order series unravels how populist unrest is redefining global power dynamics.
