Indian Islamic Calligrapher’s Yaseen & Gayatri Mantra His best work of wood-calligraphy includes both- Koranic verse ‘Ayatulkursi’ and the sacred ‘Gayatri Mantra’ of Hindus from Rig Veda. Irshad Hussain Farooqi is a top Islamic calligrapher in India whose calligraphy in wood is considered to be one of the best in the world. But is he better than those calligraphy artists who carved Koranic verses on The Taj Mahal in Agra? He believes his latest work will surpass the standards set by the Taj Mahal school of calligraphy. His most ambitious work is in progress- the Koranic verses of Yaseen to be created with a height of 6” on 250-feet-long wood panels. Irshad Hussain, a resident of Zakir Nagar, New Delhi, is the recipient of several national awards.
