A.S. Dulat, former Chief of India’s foreign intelligence agency, The Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW or RAW), says ‘status quo on Kashmir suits Pakistan but it doesn’t suit us’. He dismisses reports saying the Indian government was under pressure from its hawks to scrap the article 370 of the Indian constitution, providing a special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

While referring to the US President Donald Trump’s meeting with the North Korean Leader, Kim Jong Un, in Singapore, Mr. Dulat suggests that PM Modi could also do the same with Pakistan.

Mr. A.S. Dulat has got a scenario. He predicts former cricketer Imran Khan will be the next PM of Pakistan. In this context, he strongly believes India and Pakistan would be talking to each other just before the parliamentary elections in India, scheduled in 2019. He goes on to predict Taleban will be back in Kabul, forming a coalition government in Afghanistan.

In an exclusive interview with Cine Ink’s Pervaiz Alam, Mr. Dulat says he is all for the talks that have been held between the National Security Advisors of the two countries. He confirms that Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Lt Gen (retired) Nasser Khan Janjua and India’s NSA Ajit Doval have been meeting. Also, meetings between the Intelligent Chiefs of RAW & Pakistan’s ISI have taken place, he adds. However, he insists the future talks should be institutionalised.

Former RAW Chief offers his suggestions on solving the Kashmir issue in detail, starting with the the four-point formula supported by the former Army Chief and President of Pakistan, General Parvez Musharraf. “No other leader of Pakistan had been so reasonable as General Musharraf,” says Mr Dulat.

A.S. Dulat has high regards for the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Farooq Abdullah. “Farooq Abdullah is the only Leader in Kashmir, others are just pygmies,” adds Mr. Dulat.

A.S. Dulat was in London to promote his book The Spy Chronicles: RAW, ISI and the Illusion of Peace, co-authored by former ISI Chief Asad Durrani, former RAW Chief AS Dulat, and journalist Aditya Sinha, published by Harper Collins.

The interview with AS Dulat was recorded on 12 July 2018 in London.
