‘Simply put, a podcast is talk radio, but on demand,’ says the BBC. But no one could imagine that a serialised talk radio, ironically, called ‘Serial’ would be downloaded over 80 million times in just two years since its launch.
A podcast is an audio programme, generally spread across a series of episodes, which can be downloaded from the Internet and listened to your mobile or an Mp3 player.
On one fine morning, Guardian columnist and BBC journalist Ben Hammersley in 2004 coined a new word, Podcast, by borrowing bits from ‘ipod’ and ‘broadcast’.
